Finding a Farm Collie Today …

We do not expect to start having puppies again until at least 2023 but we hope the information on this page can help you in your puppy search.

Many breeders like us have embraced the idea of outcrossing purebred Rough Collies with unregistered farm collies or related breeds - usually English Shepherd or Australian Shepherd - to create a more old-fashioned looking collie. Each breeder has their own unique vision for the ideal collie - some of the dogs look closer to “Lassie” and others are more closely resemble a Border Collie or English Shepherd. Some are breeding dogs with strong working instincts and others breed dogs that are better family companions. We advise doing lots of research to find a breeder with dogs that resonate with you!

Go here to find a breeder who’s dogs are at least 85% collie. Many of these dogs are dual-registered with the American Kennel Club or the Old Time Scotch Collie Association, but the goal of these breeders is to stay true to the more old-fashioned Lassie-type collie while also breeding dogs that thrive in farm work, agility, and family life. Pictured here is Strathyre’s Titus-Angus, the poster boy for SCPS breed standard. You can learn about this community of breeders on their website or facebook group.

The OTSCA dogs can come in a wide range of looks depending on how much Collie is in the mix. These dogs harken back to an earlier type of collie, before the breed evolved into the “Lassie” type. Pictured here is Silver Dollar’s Honeycrisp, who’s parents are both 1/2 Collie, 1/2 English Shepherd. Although some of these dogs are being bred to work on farms, they do not have the same intense drive as a border collie and they make great family companions. You will find several active facebook groups for breeders and owners of these dogs which is a great place to find breeders and get to know the dogs that are being bred today.
